Pleasure Reading Virginia Woolf "Mrs. Dalloway" Summary 1

Mrs. Dalloway is preparing to host a party that evening. As the weather is bright she is in good spirits and decides to do some work instead of Lucy, her servant. She goes from one shop to another and meets her childhood friend, Hugh Whitbread, who came to London because of his wife's illness.
Their meeting becomes the first impulse for Clarissa Dalloway to arrive at the idea about her marriage and her youth. She remembers about her other dearest friends: Peter Walsh, and Sally Seton. Peter was her first love, but when he proposed marriage to Clarissa she refused as he was enigmatic and demanding, while her present husband, Richard Dalloway, is a reliable man. Going shopping she cannot stop asking herself whether she has made a right choice when she married Richard. Anger and pain seize her because she regrets for her decision but she refuses to admit it.
Her thoughts are interrupted by the car accident. Another character, Septimus Warren Smith, also pays attention to it. He is a veteran of World War I suffering from deferred traumatic stress. He and his Italian-born wife Lucrezia comes to the park as his doctor said it would be good fo
r Septimus ’s health. Instead of it, his state becomes worse and worse. He mutters under his breath and thinks that everything and everyone poses hazard to his life.
