Lucrezia is in despair. She doesn’t know how to help her husband. She follows all doctor’s instructions but Septimus continues to see different hallucinations and this scares the woman greatly. She left her motherland and got married to Septimus . It was before the war and now she is alone with her husband in a foreign country.

At the same time mrs. Dalloway comes home and finds an invitation to her husband from Millicent Brunt. Mrs. Brunt’s parties are very famous and Clarissa is offended because she is not invited. What is more, her husband cannot come to have dinner with her and she gets into a bad mood.

Mrs. Dalloway begins to think about her old friend, Sally Seton. When she was young she admired her and felt affection for her. Her first kiss was with Sally, but she had no option to be with her friend.

Peter Walsh disturbs her thoughts. They have not seen each other for five years and for Clarissa his coming is a great surprise. Peter tells about his life and the purpose of his arrival to London. When the talk leads to their past, Peter bursts into tears as he still loves Clarissa. She invites him to her party and he goes away hastily.
